Chapulines is a Mexican ingredient name of Nahuatl origin meaning "grasshoppers". It is built from chapolin (grasshopper) and Spanish -es (plural). It is pronounced chah-poo-LEE-nes, and it is most associated with Oaxaca.
chapolin also gave Chapultepec, grasshopper hill, and the television character El Chapulín Colorado.
