What Obleas means
Obleas is a Mexican sweet name of Spanish origin meaning "wafers". It comes from Spanish oblea, from Latin oblata (a thing offered up). It is pronounced oh-BLEH-ahs, and it is most associated with the whole country.
The same word, and the same thin wafer, as the communion host: Latin oblata is what is offered at the altar. Street versions sandwich cajeta between two discs.
