What Tepache means
Tepache is a Mexican drink name of Nahuatl origin meaning "fermented drink". It comes from tepiatl (a maize drink) or tepachoa (to press, to grind). It is pronounced teh-PAH-cheh, and it is most associated with central Mexico.
Dictionaries give both Nahuatl candidates and do not choose between them. The original drink was maize-based; the pineapple-rind version everyone knows now is a later substitution.
